“What if you could have the IKEA Effect about your whole life?
What if, at the end of it, you were a little delusional about the value of your life?
Because it wasn’t easy and the directions were unclear and you felt kind of lost most of the time, like lying on your back with a bunch of screws in your hand, but you MADE it? You made your life, the best you could, even though it turned out wobbly.”
This woke me up! Thank you!! And I love what you are doing, and your positivity is so encouraging! I’d love to visit this writing space you created one day! 💛
wow, this is such an amazing project! wrote down this line for later: "In the teeny, tiny scheme of my city, my skills, my resources, and my energy, this feels very important. This matters to me." excited to follow along!
Lindsey, I just found your Substack and I love everything about what you're doing here! I'm older than you, but not long ago (it goes by fast!), I was a writer-SAHM mom of 5 and asking myself these same questions! Now, I'm a Gigi of 2 littles and a new empty nester, STILL making my wobbly life, the best I can. I look forward to following your journey with your writers' space!
I love this wonder at your own making, your own focus on the present and the local and the people that will occupy your spaces. It encourages me with my own new, much smaller-scale making. I haven't been cobbling like you, but in the past three weeks, I've made my first six cobblers! I've tried three recipes and have grown proficient at the best of them. This past weekend, some neighbors grow blackberries and gave us some. I made them into a cobbler. We ate a third of it and gave the remainder back to our friendly suppliers. I hope they get the hint!
what a beautiful gift to your community. and you are right, we are all capable of more htan we think, and being more than we give ourselves credit for.
You contain multitudes, Lindsey! I love what you’re doing and saying.
I love this, and have already shared with two creative friends. So much to think about. Thanks!
Oh thank you!! ☺️

Thanks Kaitlyn!
It looks so good! And I REALLY hope Jake will have a permanent home in your new building 😉
I failed to ask to keep him. Big mistake.
Huge.
